When it comes to our daily routines, we often follow habits that we’ve picked up from others or simply because we’re used to them. However, there are ways to make our lives easier by making a few changes. At Lifeknowhow, we’ve compiled a list of tips that can be game-changers in improving our daily routines.
1. Place the eggs inside the refrigerator in their cartons rather than on the refrigerator door
According to food safety experts, the egg compartment on the refrigerator door is not ideal for storing eggs. It is the warmest part of the fridge and is constantly opened and closed, which can compromise the quality of the eggs. To store eggs properly, keep them in a cool place inside their cartons. Always check the temperature of the refrigerator (it should be 39 °F or colder) and the freezer (0 °F).
2. Put your razors somewhere where moisture won’t get to them
To extend the usage of your razors and save money, avoid leaving them in the bathroom or any other moist area. Moisture can cause the steel material to rust quickly. Keep your razors dry and store them away from the bathroom to ensure they last longer without rusting.
3. Place each slice of bread in a separate plastic bag and place it in the freezer
To keep bread fresh for weeks, individually wrap each slice in a plastic bag, removing all the air and sealing it tightly. This prevents air and moisture from entering and causing mold to grow. Place the wrapped slices in the freezer, and they will last for up to 3 months or more.
4. Keep your sunglasses in your chest pocket, with the lenses facing you
When you’re not wearing your sunglasses, the best way to store them is inverted in your chest pocket. This protects the shades and keeps them safe without damaging the lenses.
5. To extend the shelf life of any food in jars, turn them upside down
To prolong the shelf life of condiment food jars, such as pickles, store them upside down in the fridge. This makes it more difficult for mold to grow inside the jar. As an expert explains, “By turning the jar upside down, that surface where a mold may have landed when you opened the jar is now squashed against the lid without much air, which will make it more difficult to grow.”
6. Pour the coffee over the cream so you don’t have to stir it
Avoid the need for stirring your coffee by putting the cream in the bottom of the cup and pouring the coffee over it. This simple change can save thousands of spoons from the dishwasher and keep hundreds of stir sticks out of landfills.
7. To make the candle last longer, trim the wick slightly
To extend the burn time of your candles, trim the wick slightly before lighting them. This helps the candle burn more evenly and prevents excessive smoke and soot.
8. Use coffee cubes instead of regular ice to avoid tasteless iced coffee
A great summer hack is to use coffee ice cubes in your iced coffee. Simply make a tray of coffee cubes by freezing brewed coffee. One cup of coffee makes one tray of coffee cubes. This eliminates the problem of watery iced coffee and ensures a flavorful drink.
9. To reduce waste, shape your toilet paper into an oval
To reduce waste and make toilet paper easier to use, shape it into an oval. Ensure that the loose end of the toilet paper is facing you rather than the wall. This prevents bacteria from lingering on the paper when not in use. Squish the toilet paper horizontally until it takes on an oval shape in the center. This makes it more difficult for the toilet paper to rotate, resulting in less waste.
10. Instead of saying sorry, say that you are thankful for it
Instead of constantly apologizing for things that don’t require apologies, try expressing gratitude instead. For example, if you have a bad day and vent to your partner, instead of saying “sorry for venting and bringing down the mood,” say “thank you for listening and being supportive.” This puts a more appreciative and positive light on your relationships.
11. Season your pans with oil to fill the pores and ensure even cooking
When you have a new pan, it’s important to season it with oil. Spread the oil around the edges of the pan and place it in the oven until the heat allows the pan to absorb the oil. Let it cool and wipe away any excess oil. This process fills the gaps and pores of the pan, creating an even cooking surface and preventing food from sticking.
