The Best Way To Freeze Corn Step-by-Step Instructions

Freezing sweet corn is the ideal way to enjoy it all year round if you love the flavor of it in the middle of summer.

This is a terrific way to enjoy the fruits of your labor all year round, whether you cultivate your own or buy it from one of many home-grown booths scattered across the terrain. When you’re ready to eat, just take it out of the freezer and serve it as a simple side dish.

What Is The Best Way To Freeze Corn?

Select the best corn on the cob

When freezing corn, the first step is to select the best corn on the cob that you can locate. The sweetest and finest corn isn’t always picked first, at least not in our experience.

However, by the third plucking, the corn is sweet and ready to eat, making it a worthwhile investment. Consider cooking a few ears of corn and tasting them before freezing a huge batch.

Removing the husk and silk from an ear of corn

The husk must be removed from the corn once it has been selected for freezing. To remove the husk and silk from the corn, begin by pulling a small bit down toward the stem from the tip of the corn.

Repeat this procedure until all of the kernels of corn have been shushed and the silk has been removed from them. After that, break or cut each corn’s stem.

Because this stage tends to be a sloppy one, you can carry it out in the open. The husks can either be thrown away or added to your compost pile.

Blanching the corn

Blanching the corn is the next step in the freezing process. To do this, fill up a large stock pot 75% of the way with cool water. Then, put the pot on medium-high heat and bring it to a full boil, stirring often.

Place several ears of corn on the cob in a pot of water and set the timer for 3 minutes. Do this in batches.

After that, you’ll be able to decide whether or not to keep that particular batch.

The ice water bath

Prepare an ice water bath while the corn is boiling. Using a large bowl, fill half of it with cold water. To the water, add 2-3 glasses of ice.

Remove the cobs from the boiling water after the cooking time is finished. Take them out of the oven and immediately put them in an ice bath. After three minutes, take them to a large serving tray and keep them warm in the oven until ready to serve.

Once the sweet corn has been blanched and cooled down in an ice water bath, repeat processes 3 and 4 until they have all been completed.

Getting corn off the cob

It’s now or never to determine whether or not you want to freeze the corn as a full cob or only the kernels. Before freezing corn, remove the kernels from the cob.

Alternatively, you can freeze full cobs by placing them in an airtight container, removing any excess air, and then placing the container in the freezer.

However, we recommend preserving some corn on the cob as well. This method allows the corn to be used in a wide range of recipes rather than just as a side dish.
