Have-You-Ever-Dropped-Your-Phone-in-Water

One of the worst things that can happen with so many of us using smartphones is accidentally dropping your phone into water. If we drop it in a sink, a washing machine, or get it wet in the rain, there’s a good chance it won’t start again. Such unforeseeable circumstances cannot be avoided, and many things can go wrong. It can cause internal phone damage, display and touchscreen failure, or even worse.

There are some things you can do right away to prevent this from happening to ensure minimal damage. Let’s take a look at some options for saving your wet smartphone.

Turn off the phone right away

Many people panic when their phone falls into water. Remember, the golden rule is to not panic. If you drop your phone in water, immediately remove it and turn it off. This may prevent further damage or assist in detecting any potential internal damage. While many people are hesitant to take this step, it is an important one to take.

Remove whatever you can

After turning off the smartphone, remove any cases, covers, SIM card, memory card, and stylus, if applicable. While only a few phones today have removable batteries, if yours does, remove it immediately. Once all of these items have been removed, take a tissue paper and wipe away any remaining moisture and water, including the battery compartment, screen, connectivity ports, and so on.

Shake the device gently

After that, gently shake the device. Water can be removed from the headphone jack, charging ports, and other areas in this manner. Use a blower or vacuum cleaner from a safe distance if you have one. Remember that we’re talking about a blower, not a blow dryer. Some people use hair dryers to dry out the water, but the heat from the dryer can melt some parts and short out the circuit. We do not recommend it.

Bury the device in rice or a tightly sealed container

The most common and least expensive method of absorbing moisture is to bury the phone in uncooked rice. Another possibility is to place the phone in an airtight container with some silica gel sachets. They absorb moisture more effectively than rice.

Allow at least 48 hours for the device to completely dry before attempting to turn it on. If the damage is minor, your device should resume normal operation, or at the very least boot. If this does not happen, you must take it to an authorized service center. You can also contact our ResQ support teams at our Reliance Digital locations to see if they can assist you with what needs to be done.

Some preventative measures

Many people have the habit of talking on the phone while using the restroom or washing their clothes and utensils. However, you should avoid taking your phone to these locations. Also, if it’s raining outside, avoid talking on the phone while getting soaked.

When considering purchasing an expensive feature-rich smartphone, you should also consider investing some money to protect it. It is a good idea to use cases and covers to protect your smartphone from external damage. The protective cases provide a secure grip while also protecting your phone from scratches. With the rainy season approaching, you can purchase waterproof cases and pouches for your phone, preventing water from entering it.

Waterproof smartphones

Manufacturers are now producing smartphones that are water resistant due to newer technologies and improved handset designs.

While these phones are not suitable for deep sea diving, they are durable enough to withstand minor water splashes and rain. The IP certification for water and dust resistance allows you to submerge the device for at least 30 minutes in 1 meter of water. So, if you’re looking for a rainproof smartphone, look for some of these features.
