Tina Knowles-Lawson, the renowned fashion designer and mother of Beyonce and Solange Knowles, has recently filed for divorce from her husband Richard Lawson. The couple, who had been married for eight years, tied the knot on April 12, 2015, aboard a yacht in Newport Beach, California. This was the second marriage for both Knowles-Lawson and Lawson, who had been dating since 2013.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Knowles-Lawson filed for divorce on Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences. The date of separation was listed as Tuesday. In her filing, Knowles-Lawson has requested the court to terminate the ability to award spousal support to either party. Additionally, she has asked for her name to be restored to Celestine Knowles. At the time of this article, a representative for Knowles-Lawson has not responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
This is not the first time Knowles-Lawson has gone through a divorce. She previously split from her former husband, Mathew Knowles, who is also the father and former manager of Beyonce and Solange Knowles. After more than three decades together, Knowles-Lawson and Mathew Knowles finalized their divorce in 2011.
Knowles-Lawson shared a heartfelt Instagram post on their third wedding anniversary, showcasing a photo from their special day. She expressed her love for Lawson and wrote, “Cannot believe it has been 3 years since we did the damn thing!!!! Walking on air ❤❤ I love you with my whole being and you feed my soul ❤❤ Happy Anniversary Baby ❤❤.”
In March, Knowles-Lawson shared a photo with Lawson from a Vanity Fair Oscar Party on her Instagram. She expressed her appreciation for the good lighting and referred to Lawson as her “boo.” The caption read, “Never been one to waste some good light!!! so we had to sneak a picture at the Vanity Fair Oscar Party last night with my boo. @mrrichardlawson. During an appearance on the Tamron Hall Show in April, Knowles-Lawson spoke about her relationship with Lawson. She described their reconnection as a “gift from God” and expressed her desire to get married again after her previous divorce. Knowles-Lawson emphasized her enjoyment of being in a relationship and her belief that it was part of God’s plan for her.
