Everybody has had one of those mornings where it takes 15 minutes to decide which wrinkled shirt to wear. You’re late because it took you a long time to make a decision. Lovely!

If this ever occurs to you and you don’t feel like getting out the iron and board, you may use this brilliant ice cube hack instead.

How does it work?

It’s as simple as tossing the wrinkled garment and three or four cubes into the dryer. Then, give it a good ten minutes of running time. Wrinkles in clothing will be eliminated, and steam will be produced as the ice cubes melt. Seem too simple, right? On the contrary, it’s not. In fact, Lexie Sachs, a senior textiles analyst in the Textiles, Paper & Plastics Lab at the Good Housekeeping Institute, says that her husband does this every day.

No ice? You may also use a water bottle to spritz your garments before returning them to the dryer, or you can toss a damp washcloth in with your laundry to achieve the same result.

Other methods for ironing your clothes without using an iron

You don’t need an iron to get wrinkles out of your clothes; there are other methods. If your clothing item has been wrinkled while traveling, you might try hanging it in the shower to loosen the folds. This way, your clothes will be wrinkle-free and good to go by the time you dry off.

If you prefer, you can use a flat iron to remove wrinkles from your clothing; just be sure to check for any remaining detergent or other product residues before applying the iron’s full heat. Use rubbing alcohol to disinfect the plates before serving. Use a low heat setting for ironing delicate fabrics.

Do not own a flat iron? Sure thing. For a quick and easy steamer, just use your hair dryer. To remove wrinkles, simply hang the item on a hanger, moisten the problem areas, and then dry them. Keep the hair dryer at a safe distance from your clothes to avoid scorching them.
