Step 1: Prepare the De-Icer Spray
Fill a spray bottle with two parts rubbing alcohol to one part water. To enhance its effectiveness, add ½ teaspoon of liquid dish detergent for every 2 cups of the mixture. Ensure a thorough blend by shaking the bottle well. Clearly label it as “De-icer Spray” for easy identification.
Step 2: Apply the De-Icer Spray
Generously spray the prepared mixture onto your iced-over windshield. Don’t forget to give a few spritzes to your door locks to free them of ice as well. Allow the solution a minute or so to soften or melt the ice.
Step 3: Address Extra-Heavy Ice
If you encounter particularly stubborn or thick ice patches on your windows, be prepared to do some light scraping. Use a scraper to clear away the heavier ice sections effectively.
Step 4: Activate Windshield Wipers
Turn on your windshield wipers and give them a couple of swishes. The combined action of the de-icer spray and the wipers should leave your windshield de-iced, clean, clear, and ready for safe driving.
With these simple steps, you can efficiently tackle icy conditions and ensure a smooth start to your winter journeys.
