David, a young and talented soccer player, had big dreams of playing the sport professionally. After each game, he would gaze out the window, lost in his aspirations.
One day, a boy named Guillermo approached David on the bus and asked if the seat next to him was taken. David shook his head, and Guillermo promptly sat down. Little did David know, Guillermo also had dreams of becoming a soccer player. He greatly admired David’s skills and the way he carried himself on the field. Guillermo also couldn’t help but notice how David’s teammates looked up to him and how stylish he looked in his uniform and soccer shoes.
As Guillermo glanced down at his own soccer shoes, he suddenly felt embarrassed. They were dirty, worn out, and looked significantly more battered compared to David’s pristine pair.
Unable to contain his admiration, Guillermo complimented David on his soccer shoes. David humbly replied that they were getting old and mentioned his desire to buy a new pair with exceptional grip.
Unbeknownst to Guillermo, David had been saving up for several months to purchase new soccer cleats. With only his mother and two younger twin siblings in their family, David often worried about money.
On that very day, the two boys made a plan to visit the store where David intended to buy his new shoes. However, during the ride, they hit a pothole that caused one of Guillermo’s shoes to come off, revealing a sizable hole in the sole. David noticed this and took note.
