While vinegar will not damage your dishwasher, it is not an effective substitute for dishwasher cleaners. The acidic liquid could also react with some parts of the appliance. Over time, this could damage rubber gaskets and hoses. It’s recommended that you use vinegar as a rinse aid, but you should really just use items made for that. If vinegar combines with salty residue during the cycle, it can tarnish metal dishware and utensils.
