How to Clean Cookie Sheets With Baking Soda and Peroxide
Say goodbye to baked-on grease and gunk on your cookie sheets using two household staples: baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. This dynamic duo creates a natural cleaning solution, leveraging hydrogen peroxide’s cleaning properties when alkalized by baking soda. The process takes a little over 2 hours, with additional soaking time for exceptionally greasy pans.
Supplies
- Baking soda
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Cleaning towels
- Household sponge
- In a bowl, combine approximately ¼ cup baking soda with 2 to 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide, stirring until a thick paste forms. Adjust the consistency with more baking soda if needed.
- Place the soiled cookie sheet in the sink, washtub, or on a large towel on your kitchen counter.
- Apply the baking soda-hydrogen peroxide paste generously over the baking sheet, ensuring complete coverage without the need for scrubbing.
- Allow the paste-covered pan to sit for about 2 hours. For heavily soiled pans, extend the soaking time as needed.
- Dampen a household sponge with warm water (avoid abrasive pads to prevent nonstick surface scratches). Gently scrub the pan, paying extra attention to stubborn spots, and rinse with warm water.
- Thoroughly dry the pan to prevent rust or corrosion.
- If the back of the cookie sheet is stained, repeat all steps on the other side.
Now your pan is ready for more baking! To maintain pristine pans, use a timer while baking and consider using parchment paper instead of cooking spray or grease to avoid sticky, burnt-on residue.
