Comfortable Temperature Despite the Heat
When it’s extremely hot outside, our natural inclination is to wide open the windows. Regrettably, doing so is not advised when temperatures are highest. When the temperature outside is extremely high, opening the windows will have the opposite effect of what we expect, raising the indoor temperature as the hot air from outside replaces the cooler air inside.
However, by following a few easy rules, we can maintain a comfortable temperature in our home.
Keep the windows shut during the day
This is especially true for the southern side, which receives the most direct sunlight.
Use shades or thick, light-colored curtains to cover the windows
You can install blinds, or at the at least, use drapes with a light color and a coarse weave, to block the sun’s rays.
Air the rooms in the morning, afternoon, and evening
It’s more likely that chilly air will enter your home while the temperature outside is lower. It’s worthwhile to crack the windows open a little at night so that you can sleep more easily.
Open the windows on opposing sides of the home
This will allow for considerably quicker ventilation of the rooms. But be cautious. It’s not a good idea to continue doing this when the wind is particularly strong.
Open all of the doors (in all rooms)
When no air can escape, a home might feel like an oven. On warmer days, opening all the doors, including the bathroom door, is a far better solution.
Place some plants around the house
Natural air conditioning is provided by trees and plants in the form of shade, carbon dioxide absorption, and oxygen production. To that end, it’s a good idea to put some plants in the places you use the most.
